Learning to Fly
Last year we spent a weekend in Wisconsin with our sons. On one incredibly breezy day, we decided to fly a kite. It had been years since I’d walked in a beautiful meadow, or held the string of a kite tightly in my hands.
It’s hard to be in charge of a kite. It takes determination to maneuver the strings and create necessary momentum for it to soar. You must run swiftly and have an idea when it’s time to release the string. And, you must be willing to try again and again to receive the reward of a good flight.
We laughed, as we ran through the field. The kite kept crashing to the ground. The tail was too heavy and it wouldn’t rise, but we were determined to see it fly. After making the necessary adjustments, eventually it lifted from the ground and dotted the sky with colorful reward.
Sometimes , we try to navigate our lives and hope we will be able to soar. But, often we have difficulty. We hold on to strings which cannot be released, and forget to make necessary adjustments, when the timing is right.
God gives opportunities for us to fly, when He is ready to show us how to soar. He prepares us to be guided toward His loving arms of grace, and allows us to recognize when we need to be lifted from where we stand.
Even when we must try again and again, God helps us develop a spirit of determination in our lives, if we allow Him to lead us. He can show us how it feels to faithfully rise, and soar to the place where we can be carried by His grace. God can hold us by the strings of His love, and provide a purposeful journey ahead, if we continue to trust in Him.
What is holding you back from soaring with God? He can create desire for you to fly toward His greatness. But, you must allow Him to navigate your life, and patiently wait to be led by the One who has already decided where you will arrive.
"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'' 1 Corinthians 2:9.
God is near and He loves YOU,
Nan
