A Reason to Remember
“How deep the Father's love for us, How vast beyond all measure” are lyrics to a beautiful song. They remind us of the depth of our Heavenly Father's love for each one of His children.
God sent His Son to the world, guided Him to grow, and led Him to share the teachings of His heart. Jesus walked with all people. He showed them how to receive His Father and understand the compassion of His love.
Jesus led the way to the hill where He would die. The weight of the world scarred the flesh of His shoulders and bled in the hearts of those who watched, as He carried the cross which held His pain. He died an agonizing death. We will never experience the pain of His suffering, or be able to fully comprehend the sacrifice of His love. Jesus died for our sins, and was held by rusty nails of hatred. He hung on a cross, and in the saddest moment for those who knew He had done no wrong, our Savior took His final breath.
The Bible says, “and He died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto Him who for their sakes died and rose again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15 NIV God gave us the free gift of His grace. Some have described it as “ God’s riches at Christ’s expense.” He lovingly sacrificed Jesus to die on the cross and fulfill His will for our lives.
God knows the heart of all suffering. He prepares us to gratefully remember Jesus’ death and His resurrection. Our loving Father lifted His Son from the cross and allowed Him to rise in the glory of His grace. We need to be reminded of this offering of His love, and humbly remember how very much God longs for us to receive Him.
God desires us to have a relationship with Him and know Him as Lord of our lives. He reminds us why we are deserving of His love, and provides opportunities for us to seek Him with all of our hearts. When we have been filled by His grace, God shows us how to surrender our sin and understand how to serve Him with the fruit of His Spirit.
In moments of opportunity to reflect on His gift of eternal life, we humbly turn our eyes to the cross and remember. We feel compassion for the One who died in our place. None of us are worthy of God’s grace, but His love is deep and wide enough to remind us how very much we will always be loved.
