Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV

My mother often spoke about gifts of the heart, when we would ask what she wanted for her birthday. As a child, I couldn’t understand why she requested simple homemade presents, instead of store bought purchases for her special day. My sisters and I would spend hours creating cards and gifts. And, she would always cry when she opened them. 

God wants us to share gifts with those who understand the value of their worth. He readies us to recognize love is not found in objects which bring temporary joy. He prepares us to faithfully believe; the gifts of His Spirit will be gratefully received, when we have learned to bless the lives of others, simply by sharing the offerings of our hearts. 

Our mother is no longer with us, but we treasure her lesson of love. It cannot be bought or tied with a bow. It doesn’t have to be purchased new. God places love in the heart of the giver. He allows us to create something beautiful, when we humble our hearts and share what has already been shared with us. 

Dear God, Thank you for gifts You choose for us to receive. Forgive us when we forget to share them. Open our hearts, so everything we do will be done in love. Amen
