The Christmas season is hectic for
teachers of young children. There’s much to be done in a small amount of
time. Anticipation grows, as the children share their excitement and
practice for the annual pageant each year. They portray the birth of
Jesus and have opportunities to learn about His birth. Weeks before the
program, we practice EVERY day.
I observe a lot from my seat behind the piano. I hear the angels sing praises to God and watch as Mary and Joseph try to remember their lines. I hold my breath, when Mary “forgets” to GENTLY lay baby Jesus in the manger. And, I smile as the Wise Men present their gifts with crooked crowns and smiles. I consider how the parents will feel to see their children perform such beautiful offerings of love.
In twenty minutes of purpose, God provides a daily dose of PEACE at the piano. The children begin to embrace the Christmas Story and understand it is more than Santa and toys. They become excited to perform and can finally sing “Mary had a Baby” without slipping off the stage.
God provides PEACE and JOY. He shows us where to find it. He guides us to the manger and shows us how to welcome Jesus in our lives. He shows us how to slow the hectic pace of our routines and provides the way for us to feel His presence in our lives.
Loved ones will attend the program. They will take time from their hectic schedules and reflect on Christmas through the eyes of the children. And, even if Mary doesn’t remember to “lovingly” lay baby Jesus in the manger, there will still be joy in the hearts of those who will be reminded; HE truly is the best gift of Christmas.
Dear God, Thank you for moments to feel the presence of Your holiness. As we prepare for Christmas, humble our hearts to love You like little children. Fill us with perfect peace as we seek You with all of our hearts and take time to welcome the precious gift of Your precious Son. Amen
