Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Psalm 105: 1 NIV
We can’t embrace a spirit of thanksgiving until we learn to recognize why we are blessed...
Often, we rush through weeks of autumn and don’t take time to cultivate
a grateful heart of thanks. We move quickly through November and become
pressured by those who try to make us believe Thanksgiving is just a
scheduled day of feast.
I am a teacher in a church sponsored preschool. I love sharing about God with my young students. This season of giving provides wonderful opportunity to teach them about the first Thanksgiving and remind them why it’s important to learn how to share.
Near my classroom we have a “Turkey Box” which waits to be filled with food. Every day, children bring items to “feed” our turkey. They are encouraged to share and provide for those in need. It’s heartwarming to see their reactions, when they place food inside and begin to understand how reward comes from giving…
We are never too old to become like little children, who eagerly share the love of God and receive the gifts of His provisions. But, we must take time to open our hearts to the guiding of His presence and have desire to learn more about His mercy and grace.
There will always be persuasions of the world which try to prevent us from gratefully seeking God. But we can learn to appreciate EVERY season of purpose, if we choose to stay focused on Him, and seek Him with a thankful heart.
How can we cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving? We can reflect on what we already have. And, we can take time to discover how to share what God provides. He will show us how to help those in need. And, when we do, He will fill us FULL of joy and peace. He will show how it feels to be abundantly blessed.
Dear God, Thank you for the love of Your faithfulness. Prepare us to understand how it feels to be thankful for ALL You provide. Open our hearts to the needs of others and ready us to discover how it feels to share. As You cradle us in care, we will feel the offering of Your greatness and find reason to recognize why we should ALWAYS be grateful for the bounty of Your everlasting love. Amen
