Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Psalm 105: 1 NIV
When I taught preschool, I enjoyed reading stories about the first Thanksgiving and teaching children it’s important to share. With the help of their parents, we held a Food Drive each year to support local families in need.
There was a “Turkey Box” in the hallway near my classroom that waited to be filled. The children brought items to “feed” our turkey and were delighted when the box was FULL! It was heartwarming to see their reactions and witness the JOY of GIVING.
We’re never too old to become like little children who eagerly share the love of God and gratefully RECEIVE His provisions. But sometimes we don’t allow ourselves to be filled by what He provides. We have trouble receiving gifts of His greatness and forget to be thankful EVERY day of our lives.
Gratitude is important. It sets the stage for PEACE to come and readies us for content. It helps us examine our hearts and recognize we ARE blessed. It allows us to remember God is deserving of so MUCH MORE than mere morsels of our praise.
How can we cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving? We can reflect on what’s already been given to us and choose to make a difference in the lives of others. We can experience the reward of faithfulness and embrace the reasons we have to simply say “Thank you, God!”
God will provide everything we need to welcome a true spirit of thankfulness. Nothing can compare to the love of a grateful heart. It will “restore contentment” as we honor Him with the love of our praise. He is deserving of ALL we have to GIVE.
Dear God, Thank you for the love of Your faithfulness. We PRAISE YOU for ALL You provide and will share what’s been given to us. Help us RECEIVE the bounty of Your love with a spirit of thankfulness and understand WHY we are blessed. Thank you for loving each one of us. Thank you for preparing our hearts for Thanksgiving and helping us make precious memories with those we love. Amen
